A Healthier, Safer & Vibrant Community

Our Environment & Historical Preservation

Each City has its own charm so that the community feels proud to call it home. Azusa is no exception with its rich historical past and its potential future. However, as a community we have to do better in understanding the importance of:
1) Protecting our environment that includes our mountains, rivers, trees and
2) The preservation of our historical past.
As your new Councilmember, I will fight for the adoption of a new Historical Preservation Ordinance that protects our historical corridors of our City. In addition, implement a comprehensive city wide green approach to the way we live, work and play in our community.

Parks, Open Space and the Arts

Parks and open space are an essential part of a well-balanced community. Places where we play, exercise, or simply sit on a bench, have a tremendous impact on our well-being.

I will work to create new park spaces or beautify existing ones with new landscaping, fresh paint, and public art.

Public Arts Project In Azusa

I believe public art should be an integral piece of Azusa. The aesthetic value of sculptures, murals, or installations, coupled with the added value of public art is a long-term asset, which our citizens can be proud of and enjoy for generations.

While serving on the Azusa Gateway Committee, I was instrumental in the selection and placement of pieces of public art at two of the busy entrances into Azusa.

I would like more artwork utilized to beautify the city:

  • Implement a City Art Ordinance that encourages developers to contribute to public arts program;
  • Work to allocate funds for an After School art program;
  • Encourage the non-profit sector to fund creative programs.

The Arts

Beyond Vision United has worked closely with local artists and students from private schools and the Azusa Unified School District to encourage student’s involvement in the community. The two most recent projects included the following:

    Artist United: Bringing Color to Azusa: An art showcase project featuring local first-time artists including students from Citrus College and other learning institutions.

    Imagine the Possibilities: Creating Change in Azusa Through the Arts: A showcase and a contest featuring 8th -12th grade student artists from local public and privates schools. The goal is to get the youth engaged in the community and express the changes they envision for Azusa.

As your Councilmember, I will continue to promote The Arts in the community by engaging with other organizations to implement creative projects throughout the City.

Community Garden

Community gardens are a great way to get both children and adults involved in beautifying neighborhoods while working with nature.

The garden:

  • Encourages the community to feel proud of their neighborhood and teaches them the process of growing their own food;
  • Stimulates social interaction across generations and cultures;
  • Enables the community to eat a healthier diet;
  • Helps fight neighborhood deterioration and crime;
  • Teaches responsibility and ownership of neighborhoods.
